My Year In Comping: 2013 (3rd Comperversary)

Here's my run down of my third full year of comping (I began comping in December 2010)...

Well, I ended 2013 with a whopping 80 wins in December thanks to the advents - that beats my 60 wins in December 2012! It was fun, but hectic - it was nice when they were over really. I was comping like a maniac!!

December 2013 is also my 3rd full year of 'comping' thus it is my 3rd 'comperversary' as well.

January 2013: 26 wins
February 2013: 38 wins
March 2013: 28 wins
April 2013: 26 wins
May 2013: 33 wins
June 2013: 30 wins
July 2013: 42 wins
August 2013: 23 wins
September 2013: 36 wins
October 2013: 57 wins
November 2013: 28 wins
December 2013: 80 wins

2011: 394 wins, approx. value £20,461
2012: 249 wins, approx. value £10,674
2013: 446 wins, approx. value £15,329

Well, 2013 sees an increase in both the amount of wins and value of wins. Out of my 3 years comping so far, it's my highest amount of wins, but second highest amount in terms of value. I had a bit of a slump in comping on and off throughout the year, so I am very impressed with my wins - I didn't comp as much as previous years due to a number of reasons - being ill, Facebook/Twitter accounts hitting their follow/like limits, lack of inspiration, lack of energy etc., but did really well as it turns out and had some fantastic wins.

Here are my best (in terms of value) and favourite wins of 2013...

2013 has been a fantastic year for me - I had my first holiday abroad thanks to a comping win in 2012 - a trip to Venice in February AND my second holiday abroad from a win in 2012 - a trip to Barcelona. In terms of 2013 wins though, again some fantastic things. I won a very much needed new laptop, something I didn't think I'd win as you don't see many laptop comps, but was ecstatic when I did! I also won a Butlins live music weekend as well which we are looking forward to in 2014! So many fantastic things, I find it hard not to talk about them all, but that would make for a big blog post! I'm glad I didn't stay in my comping slump, because I really would miss chatting with my lovely comping friends, entering fun competitions, winning fabulous things that I otherwise could not afford for myself or my family - it's what keeps me going.

Here's a review of my 2013 wish list (the things I was hoping to win) and how well I did:

  • Holiday to Egypt (my dream destination, specifically Cairo!) X
  • Big cash win X
  • Laptop (any with a decent spec, but ideally an Alienware) ü
  • Good spec DSLR camera X
  • PlayStation 3 (PS3) X
  • Red stand-alone cooker (ideally gas, but would be happy with electric) - well I won a black cooker, not a red one, but not complaining as we really needed one ü
  • OK, this one is a bit 'Out There' (pardon the pun), but I am hoping for a third 'The X-Files' movie and to win premiere tickets to it X
  • Bed (ours is beyond wrecked) X
  • Sony Xperia T, Samsung Galaxy S III or LG Optimus 4X HD (though will undoubtedly change as more new ones are released) X
  • Clothing and/or shopping vouchers ü
Same as in 2012, I guess 30% (sounds more than 3/10!) of my 2013 wish list isn't too bad! Here's what's on my 2014 wish list:
  • Big cash win
  • Holiday to Egypt (my dream destination, specifically Cairo!)
  • Good spec DSLR camera
  • PS4 or XBox One
  • Clothing and/or shopping vouchers
  • iPod Touch (ideally with docking station) or hi-fi system
  • Family holiday abroad (never been on a family holiday abroad (Barcelona & Venice were just for 2 people, so me & Paul went) and most class children up to 12 years old as children and as David is 11, could really do with winning one this year!)
  • Grand National (Aintree, horse racing) tickets
  • Dental implants (might sound odd, but I can't think of anything that would make me happier than getting my teeth sorted out)
  • Sky TV subscription paid for a year
And that's it for my summary of my third year in my #1 hobby, comping! I hope all of my comping friends the very best of luck for 2014 :) xxx

Oh and a quick plug of hubby's websites while I'm here ;) In case you haven't heard of it yet, you can use Twitaculous.com to quickly find and enter Twitter competitions quickly and easily and you can use CompersHaven.co.uk to quickly find and enter Facebook like & share competitions!

    1. Glad it inspired you :) As I mentioned, I hit a comping slump and felt like giving up, just wasn't feeling inspired, but kept on with it and turned out to be a great year for me!

Hmm, as for tips on organising yourself to get everything done, that's something I'm still trying to figure out and I've done 3 years of comping now - something always ends up neglected for lack of time!

  3. what a great post, and a huge amount of wins. Love your best for September that out of 36 wins the scrabble game was your favourite, something so simple.
Well done on the advents, I did very very few of them as I wont make myself depressed and stressed over them and I see what they do to people

    1. Thank you :) I was very pleased, won some lovely stuff last year, loved winning the Scrabble games, we have a board game collection like you wouldn't believe and we love to sit down at the table and play them as a family, so it was a fantastic win for us - it's on of the few things that can drag my son away from technology for a while as well!!

I'd had quite a slow comping year so I challenged myself to do the advents and it's inspired me, both the amount of wins and just got my blood pumping to enter more this month, and I think I've entered more than I had been prior to the advents.

Anyway, wishing you the very best of luck for this year xx

  4. Wow I have been comping on and off for about 2 years and not won a single thing. You have really inspired me. 2014 will be my year!! Could I ask how many hours a day you spend comping? T

    1. Glad my post inspired you, and wishing you the best of luck for 2014 :) My comping times vary - some days I will sit and comp first thing until last thing with only breaks for food, a game or two in the evening with hubby & son, watching a telly programme or two, other days, I will only enter a few here and there, depends how inspired I am or how much other stuff I have to do really. I know there are people out there who enter a lot more than me though, so I guess they do a lot better than me.

  5. Thank you for sharing this - It's very motivating to hear about other people's wins - well done to you, I'd really like to win some holidays as I'm really feeling the pinch right now and ned to escape lol. Most of what I've won this year and last year have been very low value prizes but I'm keeping at it as I can't stand the thought of not trying. Happy comping xx
